I was wondering if someone would be willing to go back and start with "Base" sires of deer breeding? I mean if their was semen around, would you try to "GO Back" or "Keep Going" from where we are?

Interesting...personally I am doing both.
I have deer directly out of a lot of those sires.
...But bought AI'ed does to a lot of the new but tried to pick the does directly out of the old school bloodlines...I figured I would get people in from either side...Time should tell
If you look at the Painted Meadow's thing under farms you'll see what I am talking about...Also if you have any info on what you would do different let me know...

Reed, we too are using some of the old school bucks. We are crossing Poncho on a Little Boomer/Louie doe this fall. As good of a producer as these buck were for their day, what would they do on todays deer. I'm sure the right crosses are out there for these prven bucks.

Reed, I plan on using some semen from one of the old school boys this fall. Like Michael says what would happen if you took a buck that was so amazing on the does of years ago and put him on some of todays stacked doe pedigrees.
If you click on my avatar and go to my personal member page and then look over on the right side of the page at the photo albums area. Then click on and look at my doe pedigrees I have listed there. Now picture me using some of my Poncho semen in that selection of does in the album. Pick out which doe or does would be your most favorite choice or choices for Poncho.
I find it fun playing around with crosses on paper and seeing what they would look like. Give it a try and tell me what you all come up with.

Roger, Very nice line up of does. I would use Poncho on Dolly and Bubbles as my first choices on your does. How did I do?

Roger, You leave me with two approaches. With the Bubbles, Dolly does, crossed with Poncho will build a base with bigger legs. That will put old school on Flee's anchor crosses. They will be ready for your new bucks coming up (Updraft, and Contrail.) But.....
You can cross Poncho with the new age (Max Thrust, Big Guy), and get maybe the "Super Deer". Who knows? It is fun to put them on paper, but I ran out of paper!
