Mayes County Man Dies In House Fire
By Chris Wright, News On 6
PRYOR, OK -- A Mayes County man was killed after his home burst into flames.
The body of 39-year-old Michael Cobb was found inside the rubble of his rural Mayes County home late Tuesday night.
Witnesses told investigators they heard an explosion, and when firefighters arrived, the house was already a total loss.
The Osage Fire Department responded and later discovered they had lost one of their own.
Cobb was a long-time volunteer firefighter with Osage and a foreman at National Gypsum in nearby Pryor.
Family members did not want to go on camera, but say Cobb was a devout family man who enjoyed coaching his daughter's softball team.
He was also an avid bowler and had recently gotten into the deer business, raising them on his property.
Cobb is survived by his wife, three children and two step-children. None of them were home at the time of the fire.
The state Fire Marshall's Office and The Mayes County Sheriff's Office are assisting with the investigation. Both say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

I just spoke with Jerry Campbell today and I am going to speak with Kevin Wallace tomarrow about doing a Benefit at the 1st Annual Whitetails of Oklahoma Classic Auction on August 1st, 2009 being held in conjunction with the Cevid Congress. I personally know having an 18 year old just starting college this year, a 5 yr old, along with a 3 month old how devastating this must be. I can not express in words what I am feeling right now. Hug your kids before bed every night and tell them you love them.
I know the economy has everyone a little down right now but in no way can we feel the pain this family is suffering. Please give to Mike's Memorial or donate to the benefit auction we plan to have on Aug. 1st, 2009. In my earlier post is the address for the cash and gift donations. If you have something you would like to donate to the Benefit Auction please contact Eric Pinkston, Kevin Wallace, Jerry Campbell, or any Oklahoma Whitetails Board member.
Thanks and God Bless,

Eric, I only have one doe but I do have some straws I will donate, not top stuff but I am sure someone will be able to use it but more importantly, Mikes family will be able to use the money. You know, I met Mike last year for the firt time and I helped Donny and him unload their trailer, we had never met before but they both were so pleasant and frinedly, we hit it off right away and talked the whole show. Then just recently at NADEFA I had the chance to see Mike again and even got to met his father, a very nice man and I could see where Mike got it from. My finace and I enjoyed their company each evening at NADEFA, Mike always found out what table we were sitting at and he joined us, it was fun and we would just talk and laugh. It is very hard to think that he is not with us anymore and the times spent are not only a memory with no more to come. I never thought I would feel this way about someone I have only ever seen at 2 shows but when you find a friend you know it and Mike was a friend. I remember Mike telling me of his partner Donny going through a house fire and Mike opening up his home to him, that was who MIke was and we will all miss him. I wish I lived closer so I could tell his wife this but I am sure Mike was that way with everyone, he was a cut above the rest.

Hello, I am Terri Cobb, Mike's sister in law. I can't disclose anymore info about the investigation, due to the fact that it is still ongoing. We don't want to jepordize the situation anymore than it has been. I am also speaking on behalf of Mike's oldest brother, Bobby, when I say thank you for the sincere comments about how great a guy Mike is. We aren't deer farmers, however, we did enjoy taking our girls up to their Uncle Mike's and letting them see the deer. They really liked getting their faces nuzzled by the deer. Bobby also enjoyed helping Mike with building the barn and making repairs when needed. We have also become pretty good friends with Donny Jordan and we look at him as a big brother. He really has become part of the family. There just aren't enough words to really shine a light on Mike's character. He is just an all around good guy. Any prayers you guys can give for the family are truely appreciated. In this time of loss, we do have a HUGE void in our hearts, but at the same time that void is filled, because we know that Mike is looking down on us and keeping his hand on our shoulders. We greatly miss Mike, and we will see him again. Besides, he has to help take care of that big deer farm in the sky. Thank you all.

You all seem like really awesome people. Mike was sure lucky to have you all as friends. Even those of you who didn't know him are willing to help in a time of need. God surely broke the mold when you all entered this world. I know all this sounds sappy, but it is just what my heart is telling me to say. I wish that I had the means to be a part of such a great association, however, I don't have the means to set up a deer farm.
Mike was and is a huge asset to our family. If any of his siblings needed advice, he was always right there. If he couldn't talk on the phone at that particular moment, he always made sure to call back.
Hailey, Slade, and Megan are a beautiful bunch of kids. They don't know how special they really are. Megan would probably hurt me if she knew that I bragged about this, but she is giving Mike his first grandson. Now granted the baby will not know his grandpa, but Mike will know him. We know that Mike is looking down on all of us as we speak. I just hope he is enjoying himself at that huge whitetail deer farm up there.
God needed him to tend to his deer. I just wish that He didn't need Mike so soon. Well, thank you all for everything and God Bless.

My prayers and thoughts are with the Cobb Family and with the investigators.........I pray they catch the ones responsible for this evil crime! Cobb family keep your faith and I assure you God will make good from this terrible tragedy. God Bless you all!!

It is hard to find the words to express how shocked and grieved we were by the loss of our friend and member of this great deer farming family, Mike Cobb. His smile and optimism will be sorely missed. We spent time with Mike and his dad at NADeFA and I am thankful for those memories. Though they are the last that we have of him here on earth, I love the idea of him working on that "huge deer farm up there" :), and will look forward to seeing him there someday. To all of his family and loved ones, please know that Mike was loved by so many and that you are all in our prayers. Donny, we love you, too, buddy, and will continue to hold you up in prayer and support you anyway that you need. I found this picture on Ultimate Whitetails' website and had to put it on here. It makes me smile to see him in this one and it is a great way for us all to remember Mike. God's speed Friend - we will see you on the other side!

Just a quick update to the murder of Mike Cobb. An man has been charged today for the murder of Mike. It is my understanding that the guy was a boyfriend of Mike's wife. It is still so hard to believe that anyone could or would want to hurt such a great person. My thoughts and prayers go to Mike's family and friends as this terrible crime once again opens their wounds.

Wow, I am just blown away and now the crime involves a family member and will affect them even deeper. This still saddens me a great deal as I considered Mike a friend and I am just in awe that his wife or any wife could do that to their husbands and even the impact this will have on the kids for the rest of their lives.I can still remember having dinner with mike and his dad at NaDeFa, his last auction I believe, just what seems like only a few short months ago. Her punishment will con humanly here on earth but I know what her punishment will be for eternity, she will regret that decision forever and ever. I miss you my friend and I know you are having the time of your life working that great deer farm in the sky.

As painfull and awkward as it can be, God's Word tells us to pray for our enemies.
There is ONLY ONE unpardonable sin, and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit(unbelief in God).
I pray that God's Kingdom come, God's Will be done...and that salvations will be won by any and all of those involved in this horrendous act of violence that spawned out of self/greed, and for all those in view of this act as well...in His name!!!
