I tried to search the old forum, but didn't come up with a whole
lot. I knew some of you guys have prob had experience with this.
If a buck gets the treatment along with the rest of the herd will
it affect or stunt his antler growth?

I don't know...But I hope not we are treating our best buck as we speak.
I would like to know tho... We either had to treat them or lose him. So we did the
treatment.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems a little early in the year to be worried about Coccidia?

I worry about coccidia from the 1st of April untill the first freeze. Bad news, this stuff. East Texas, that is.

If I recall right here, coccidia is present in deer all the time but isn`t a problem until it becomes an elavated level. This can occur when we have an over abundance of fecees and unhealthy water puddles in our pens. Bacteria loves these conditions and when we have them occur from time to time we need to act accordingly. At one time I thought that Corrid did affect antler development but have found out over the years that a buck with a bad case of coccidia will show a big dip in antler growth that year. The reason I say this is because I had a 175 3 year get a bad case of coccidia to the point of blood in the stool at the beginning of his 4th year and by time I caught it, it was too late. The buck finished that year at 130.
I don`t really believe if meds are used as prescribed will affect antler growth but I am sure illness will. If I`m wrong about the meds by all means let me know what ya used and the affect it had. When I quit learning about these animals I`ll write a book.

Don`t look for the book in the near future because I have another 30 years of learning to go. :D
