Little Boomer

I was just looking at sudden impacts pedigree and saw that little boomer shows up 4 times. I have also noticed in alot of other big name bucks little boomer shows up alot, but yet no one ever talks about him. Y is it that if the buck him self never becomes "huge" he isnt considered a great sire. Ya he only ever got to about 240" but he really shows pass down, even if it isnt direct with in two generations there is usually a "huge" buck. I just wondered if i am the only one that has ever noticed how many big name deer he shows up in and yet never gets any credit.

4 out of my 6 deer have him in their pedigree. My yearling in my profile is out of his line. Looking really good. Then his mom has the width with her her dad was 28" wide. Got figures crossed on this one.

I have always considered little boomer a great sire.....this is why he is in many of my doe pedigrees as well........he doesn't get talked about but he is noticed believe me.....just see what alot of his stuff sells for at the sales.......

Like Dennis says, Little Boomer is noticed, but he is what some people call "old school" breeding since most people are breeding with everything from sons to great grandsons and then some now. I must have a fair amount of faith in his breeding since 10 of our 13 does have him in the pedigree. I will have fawns this spring that have him as many as 6 times in the pedigree.
If you want semen a friend of mine has some he most likely won't use anymore.

Theoretically the offspring should out perform the older deer, that’s if we’re headed in the right direction. That’s why you see more folks breeding the younger deer.

That being said I breed a BJ doe to Maxbo Xtreme. Xtreme’s mama is a double breed Little Boomer Doe, Maverick x BJ.

I noticed in the Top 30 catalog several years ago that McQuaig said in his add that The Little Boomer line has become one of the best crosses on Maxbo. If you check the pedigrees most of his really big deer came out of those Flees doe.

Not to compare but Patrick line is the same way. There are many great sires that got the industry where it is today. With improved genetics through sons, grandsons, and so forth many great sires are all put together in one package in todays deer.

Aaron, funny you would mention the Patrick line. Out of the 13 total does we have, 10 have Little Boomer, and 6 of our 13 have the Patrick line.
At some point I decided to base our herd mostly on the Flees line, but I also wanted the Waldvogel and Patrick lines in there. This year we are hoping to be adding Glen Dice's Romeo crossed with a Rolex doe which again brings more of the Waldvogel and Patrick lines, but also adds the Dean Borntrager line through Rolex with High Roller and of course Drifter through GD Romeo.
Next I will add a splash of the PA Geronimo line in just the right way and I will be all set. This is what I find the most fun. The mixing and blending of pedigrees. One of the other farmers here in WI came over the other day to visit. He brought all his pedigrees and we exchanged doe pedigrees and sat at the table and decided how we would breed the others deer. That was a lot of fun!
