We recall some info talked about at a Quality Deer management mini seminar regarding this and wondered if any of you good people had some online sources for this that I can cite in an article we are doing on shed hunting?
Granted we are writing about wild deer but i thought you would be a good source
wild Whitetail deer in the Northern US/canada (as opposed to High Roller style farm deer)
1-Talk was that the larger bucks actually drop antlers earlier than smaller bucks (we have found large antlers as early as Dec and bucks here in NH drop anywhere from Dec-March)
2-Also that the larger bucks have to drop early so that they can grow earlier due to the shortness of the seasons here and lower nutrition
3-and lastly they had quoted that under best case conditions bucks can add an inch plus of antler per day
I had many saved articles but due to a computer crash and subsequently having to use a very old computer that freezes up frequently I am having trouble re finding these
THANK YOU in advance
