Susan, we don't actually weigh our fawns here. We just don't see the need for it. The fawn your talking about in the pic is actually pretty average size really. Maybe slightly big, but not by much. It must just be the way the deer was positioned that makes it look bigger.
Last spring we had a set of twin does that were HUGE. They were both sold, but the owners are pretty confident they will give fawns this year. They were exposed to our bucks before shipping.

We just started weighing here this year....reason being that we had a HUGE buck fawn last year and it's more out of curiousity than anything. After picking up a 7 lb and 8lb fawn the last couple of days, I would say that he weighed close to 15 lbs....plus he had a twin sister. Kind of fun weighing them and seeing what they weigh.
We had a doe give birth to triplet buck fawns...she's a little tiny doe herself...and she had 17-18lbs of fawn in her. Seems unreal that such a small doe could carry that much fawn in her. Probably why she was the first to go this year.
I actually went back in my records and noticed she has been the first to fawn every year....she's had double bucks for us the last 2 years. May have something to do with her size.

Thanks. She is a cutie. Actually, the fawns with her in the pic are her half sisters. All out of Hydro Ax different mothers. Her brothers left on mom.

This was the fawns first night in the house. Please excuse the messy looking couch:)
You are seeing Laurie holding Apple who is a Max Thrust/Avalanche doe.
And the other 2 are sisters from a set of triplets. Flees' Big Guy/Maxbo/Flees Butkus/Magnum/Louie (which is the womb sister to Max Thrust) The brother is still on mom.
I will be putting together a video that will be posted on You Tube with the other videos we have posted.
