I have a doe that is showing all the signs of having fawns tonight....problem is we are suppose to get a frost over night (just my liuck) Anyhow, i was planning on checking her a few times tonight to see if she does fawn......my question is......being it is going to get so cold.....should i pull the fawns right away and get them into the nice warm fawn pen or leave them with mom......I have already talke to a buddy of mine and he said he thinks the fawns will be fine left alone out with mommy.......just wanted to see what anyone else thinks.........

Has she fawned before ...The only way I would pull them is if she has not taken care of her fawns in the past or it rains and is that cold.

We had our first fawn today...probably last night and it was supposed to get down to freezing last night. It just kinda laid there when we picked it up so I eartagged it and laid it back down. We watched for awhile and it got up and walked around and went to lay in a different spot. I think I would leave it alone...the doe and the fawns.... and just check on things sometime tomorrow. We usually walk the pen before dark once a day

We had our first fawns today a set of twins and trips, its raining lightly so I brought the trips in after 3 hrs with mom, their small 2-2.5 lbs It is forecast to get close to freezing with snow showers tomorrow and daytime highs around 40 deg Farh. until friday, we have had good success pulling because of weather and puting them back with the moms , we try to let them spend part of the day together to keep a good bond.

Dennis , if there is no threat of rain they should be fine. But like myself it's ok to worry;). I have been back and forth to the pen tonight also, just to be sure first time mom doesn't have any problem. Gotta go again. Good luck ,Allen

If you have a warm and dry spot for them in the pen put them there -most likely they will stay there or at least return there. I posted earlier about the plastic barrels we put in our pens just for this reason. We are in far northern WI and like to have dry warm spots the fawns can crawl into. The others are right, usually just cold won't hurt them - but rain and cold can be a problem. But again, if you have those cozy spots for them you won't have to worry.

Dennis the dead one is most likely just one of those things and not connected to the temps. I just looked at your forecast for Fombell and it looks really nice there all day and really for the week. Just a bit cold tonight with a low of 32 degrees. If anything go out and pick it up and take in the garage for the night and then put it back but watch that she takes it back then. But really I don't think you should do anything. If it is dry they can handle a lot.

Went out and vaccinated the fawn.......looked to be in nice dry place......mom is tame and came looking for some treats......however, while giving her a few treats I noticed movement in her belly......she is now running the fence back and forth.....pretty sure she has another one coming.......it has been 4 hours since the last ones were born.......can they take a while between fawns sometimes? you would think this was my first year fawning.........it's not but I just stress out over this stuff....can't help it!!

Dc the other one was cleaned off.......not dry but not slimy at all.......who knows 100 different things could have happened at birth..........now I'm worried about Mom......she looks like she still has fawn in her and is pacing the fence......been 4 hours since she fawned....hope she not having problems.....

My Rold Gold doe had twin Hydroax fawns sometime last night. The buck is up and fine, but the doe fawn was dead just a few feet from where she was born. She weighed over 10lbs and was full term... I'm guessing maybe mom had trouble during birth. She was cleaned off a little but not all the way. Sucks to lose them already.

Last year we had 2 does that had fawns a day apart. Didn't know if that was normal but everything turned out OK.

Sucks Mike. Sorry about the doe fawn. Hopefully that buck fawn will make up for the loss.

Thanks Steve. Just wish I could have done something, but it's tough when they are born in the middle of the night. I checked the girls last night before dark and none of them were acting ready, so I was a little surprised this morning when I found the fawns.
Getting ready to check the pens for more fawns... then I'm gonna check out game 1 of the PENS vs. Carolina!!! Let's go PENS!!!!!!!!!!!
Forgive me... I get a little crazy during playoff hockey... well football too, but it's hockey season right now!

Well Dc no more fawns from her....she was just a nervous reck with us being in there....things settled down and she started taking good care of the doe fawn....I was debating on pulling her tonight or not and decided Mamas milk is pretty important so I left her out for the night........good news is my buck fawn with the cracked hoof is doing well.......had the vet out and we put him down and cut the nail back to the break...there was a little blood but no infection .....filled him with antibiotics anyhow......but he was already walking on the hoof better..........oh well let's see what tomorrow brings.......hey Micheal our PENS DID IT ........PENS UP BY ONE!!! That helped my day!

I think I found the definitive answer, when the view out your front door looks like this.... its time to pull fawns. I can't even see the edge of the earth anymore.

Curtis, from time I was a youngin, i knew edge of north was place to visit,Go hunting.not live! i would not only pull Fawns, But pull up stakes! you gotta be a santa Claus, dessendant, or part snowman. goin through them long winters, it got Best of Santa, he quit c,mon as Much. Finally Quit, we just kept fooling the kids, had to be rough, i never heard of her making him no cookies for trip. never went to help. had to be a bag never heard much of her, to cope he spent all his time in the stalls working. dont let them cold winters get you too!!Are trying your luck with whitetail, instead of reindeer.:D

The only thing I can say good about the cold is that it make sure only the strong survive, and one other thing about cold.... when it happens it's an inconvenience, cold can not pick your house up and throw it away.
