I have a four day old fawn.......have been having trouble getting him to take a bottle.....been about 30 hours since he ate......he just lets the nipple sit on his tongue and does nothing........took his temp it was 100.5 while taking it he had a lot of black poo.......I know they can nave that but he seemed to have quite a bit......plus I'm still fighting with him to take the bottle....not sure on next step........

I got the guy under a heat lamp.....he shoukd be good and warm.....i've been trying and trying to do everything I know to get him going and it's been no luck.......normally i would just put the guy back out with mom....but that is not an option at this time......I purchased 10 buck fawns from someone and this is one of those fawns.....so mama isn't here.....I've never had this much trouble trying to get fawns started....I may have to take to vets in the morning to have tube fed....i will try again in a few hours!!

Try subque fluids to keep him hydrated and a shot of B12 to help stimulate his appetite. Good luck...

Dennis go to www.thegoatstore.com and get lactated ringers solution.
I order five before fawn season.I am very busy, but call me if you need help...If I don't answer I am probably getting my a** kicked by a Maxbo granddaughter I bought...We/They left her on 5 days... so I get flogged every time to get the bottle in her mouth and then everything is fine...(other then me) my legs are bruised and my arms bloody, but she's fine not a hair out of place:D

It's so funny how cute and innocent they look than you grab-a-hold and:eek:

Dennis, sounds like you may need to get a fawn feeding tube just in case. If you can't find one give me a call I can get you some sent out. Never know when you may need it. Good luck with the rest.
