I was just wondering when everybody gives there EHD Vaccinations to their herds? I have heard of people doing it several times a year and Ive heard of just yearly boosters. How do you guys do it and which month is most beneficial to protecting against EHD. Thanks

We do ours in January and again in June when the does have all fawned. The January shots are given thru the chute and the June rounds are given via darting.

I live in nothern KY.I give them after the does have fawned. So I do not stress the does any more than I need to.I do not belive that EHD show's up in my area before then.I give them a shot of 2cc,then 3 week's later I give them another 2cc.

Any new deer or weaned fawns get an initial shot followed by a booster within 2-4 weeks
We do our whole herd every year in March ,and starting last year we also gave an addtional dose about the second week in July. This is the program that Dr. Shipley has recommended to us. At a cost of only $2.00 an animal it is well worth it. We have not lost a animal to EHD yet. I probably shouldn`t have said that.......................

Can it cause problems if the does are pregnant when they are vaccinated? I know of a farm that gave there shot 2 weeks ago. Should I just wait until each doe has fawned then then do it. Im in central IL. Is there a certain time that EHD hits IL?? Therefore, They need to be vaccinated before a certain date?

T.R.O. We had to run our does through for a brucellosis test when they were pregnant this year and Dr. Shipley gave them all their EHD boosters at that time and they have been delivering fawns just fine. I would just worry if you were darting them and they ran into a fence or something. Also never run a doe through a chute if her udder has gotten full of milk as it can actually rupture. It happened to an amish friend of mine. He waited until the fawns had delivered then ran them through. Two ruptured their udders. Now he has to bottle feed any fawns from them. Rick

We gave the EHD vaccine early May and then a booster at the end of May and the next day one of the does had twins and they were perfectly healthy. I woudn't do it so late in May because I hate to have pregnant does in the chute. We like to give it to pregnant does so that they will pass the immunities on to their fawns. Im planning on giving it again next year in late April. Just a thought..

Greg Last year Dr. Shipley advised me to give bottle feed fawns the shot at 3 and 9 weeks, and the bucks at birth. I didn't do it and lost my Maxbo Radar buck fawn in November 3 weeks after a warm spell when there where more flies and gnats than I had had all year. Boom classic EHD one evening laying down looking fine but somthing a little wrong; 6am stiff!!! This year all fawns are getting EHD shots. $2 aint near what i pay for semen!!
