I know some button bucks are capable of breeding, my question is, is there a way to tell is a button buck is sexually mature enough to breed successfully. And i mean other than putting him in with some girls.

I would agree with Four Seasons, however In my expeirence the button buck that bred my doe fawns and even a few adult does a few years ago didnt produce on time, the fawns were in late july-september, and i dont like late fawns. I am sure there are button bucks that can breed doe fawns and get fawns born on time, i just didnt have it happen for me.

by saying "any kind of hard horn", do you mean then only the button bucks that rub/shed velvet their buttons will breed. and i too dont want too late of fawns.

Many buck fawns are too small to breed large does.... They just cant reach!!!!
Not for lack of trying.....

If you can see any white hard buttons above the hair they can breed!!!Mabey some can without buttons,Play it safe and keep the little buggers out of the doe pen.....You know how boys can be!!!!!!

If they have any body size to them they will breed. If they are big in November , they will breed then or as winter goes on and they grow, doe fawns coming in to heat late will get bred by these little guys. I had one this year that fawned in Sept. I was opening up the pens after all the antlers fell off this spring and a button buck ran up to a doe fawn and bam.... it was all over. I didn't know she was in heat. It was around the first part of March. Also, I almost got taken once by a breeder buck in March as I was looking around for shed antlers in the pen. I was just looking at the ground in the snow and looked up and the buck had his ears back , all haired up, ready to pounce when I noticed him. He had a doe fawn in the corner near me.....never forget this can happen late in the season when you are in your pens. Jim

My understanding was if a buck fawns testicles had dropped he was capable of breeding. Hard horn buttons or not.
