Hi all
I have decided to try to bottle feed a sika doe fawn I pulled her yesterday when she was a day old, I have bottle fed whitetail before and fallow, but this girl befuzzles me, it has been 26 hours since I pulled her and she still in not wanting a bottle, I usually have a better response from the whitetail as they will usually drink after about 18 hours from momma, I am starting to wonder what I got myself into, but at least now she will let me pet her without crying I hope I am not making a mistake by taking her from her momma as I was told from someone that sika are hard to bottle feed, but I have to argue on that one as two years ago, I gave a good friend of mine a sika baby and he did quite well on the bottle so I guess it is going to be a waiting game on when this little darlin decided she is hungry enough to take a bottle

well after 36 hours she still would not take a bottle no matter what I did, and I got tired of being beat up so she went back to her moms pen, the doe accepted her like she was there all along, sika sure are a different type when it comes to bottle feeding

I have found that Sika are the most doscile and easiest to start on a bottle. However, the teat on a sika is different from that of a WT enough that you need to start the Sika on a pritchard nipple. Sika make great pets and petting zoo animals because they are so easy going and are very comfortable in crowds and with people and other animals. Better Luck on your next attempt.
