Is a dartgun essential when just starting? I plan on trying to find a class for it so I dont kill anything by mistake. Funds are a bit tight since I am just starting and want to go as cheap as possible for now. Also, I am not sure what I am going to start with, either bred doe or fawns. Is there a problem with darting fawns? I would think they would be easier to handle then bred doe since they will be bottle fed and used to approaching humans. Yes, I know I am naive, and do appreciate any answers you all may have.
Thanks
Brian

Brian, the easiest way to catch bucks is to soak yourself with doe sent and when they get close enough... stick them with a syringe and knock them out .....your not a slow/fat guy are you?

Curtis, no comment....LOL
That reminds me of that video of the guy getting attacked by a deer, it was later told that he had covered himself in doe and cow elk urine.

Brian, I would start with bred does.... if you lose some of their fawns you still have the does, you lose the fawns....and you get to go shopping again, with does you can AI and carry on.
I was just cruising White tail Exchange and saw a great looking buck from Texas called Matador it's an auction and it's not over until it's over but right now the semen is there to be stolen by someone

Yes, I would get a dart gun. You can get a cheap one. And do start with bred doe's and buy good one's. That was what I was told when I started, but I go out and buy a bunch of fawn's. Wish I could do that over.

You will need a dart gun but you can get one for a couple hundred to start out with and then mabey pick up a better one later if needed.I have one of the co2 guns and it works just fine. You dont need to burn $1200 on a gun.As far as deer.If you have enough to either buy one great bred doe or 2 good ones make sure you get the great one and grow from there. In todays deer world you better have the proven lines people want or you will get peanuts for them when you try to move a few offspring. You are in texas so you will have limits but you will also have great deer to choose from.

I thought the blowgun and peanut trick was a great idea. they get use to the blowgun hitting them with peanuts.

We also use a blowgun. Very inexpensive and very accurate at close range. I will be trying the peanut trick. Thanks for the idea.

Where can you buy a blow gun? How much do they normally cost? Is there a special dart for a blow gun?

I got my Pneu-Dart blow gun from Henry when he was at BF Products. I think it was around $60 for the gun, case and 6 1cc darts with varying needle lengths. It uses the standard P darts.

You can order direct from Pneu-Darts web site as well. They are about $60.00 and that is for the kit. It includes some 1cc darts, practice darts and a case. Great Deal
Here is the link for the blow gun
