Newly AI'd doe question

Here is the situation....

You take a handful of your own does to a friend's facility to have them AI'd

You supply the semen but you want the ones that don't take to be bred to your own bucks...

when would you say the earliest would be to move them back to your facility to put with cover bucks?

Anyone ever been in this situation or thought about it?

when you put them to sleep to ai them,after you ai then load them on your trailer and let them wake up at your farm.. back them up to your bucks a few weeks later

The two facilities are 2.5 hours apart

if i load them into the trailer to wake up don't you think the transportation would cause enough stress to void the AI?

If you do it right after they are AI'd they will be perfectly fine.

If you wait 1-2 weeks eggs that are attached could come loose.

Why do you need to put them to sleep to AI? We do it in the chute. You could just let them settle down for a couple weeks and then load them up to take home. Moving them back and forth to a new pen though could be stressful. Doing the AI and putting them back into their familiar environment is best. At the very least, they should be at your friends for a few weeks before the AI to calm down and be familiar with the area. We have found that deer usually travel pretty well in a trailer - they tend to lay down and stay put as long as you keep moving.

To sleep just live load them. There will be less stress on them in their own pen

Why do you need to put them to sleep to AI? We do it in the chute.

Depends on the type of AI you do. cervicle you dont have to put them down, do it right in the chute. Laproscopic you do put them down.

Some people wait 10 days others 15 days to add a back-up buck. If you had an empty pen at your facilty ,I would move them back before they wake up....if you don't... leave them there at your friends till those days are over .....

Why don't you just AI them at your place? If you do move them to AI, I'd load them up after the proceedure and put back in pen, then add buck at 18-19 days. As high as fuel is I still think you should do it at your place even though you have to dart them.

I think he said a handful Ross, I agree with you on that ...but most A.I tech guys want big numbers at once. Thats probably why he took his handfull of deer in the first place to his buddys.....just saying !!!
