I have a 2 1/2 week old buck fawn that will not poop without an enima for the last 5 days. I have tried stimulating him with a warm wet cloth, babywipes, even my dog but he won't go. How often should he be going? And how long should I be waiting before I give him an enima? He also has some small sores around the base of his tail. Does anyone know what they may be from?

How much is he eating? When you get stool out of him with the enima, what is it like, or can you tell because of the enima breaking it down? Are the sores ant bites?

Robbie, thanks for responding, I think I have seen you at the TDA shows. I feed him 6oz of zoolologic every 4 hours. The enima works every time, his stool is solid and maybe 2 inches long with a mustard color. The sores do not look like any bites, I'll have to look again though.

Try offering him a bottle of water, 3 or 4 oz., inbetween your milk feedings to make sure that he is fully hydrated. Even more, if you notice that his urine is dark yellow or has a strong odor - this concetrated urine indicates dehydration.

You can also add some mineral oil to the bottles, to help "lube" him up from the inside out. I had a buck fawn do this last year, and after a few days, he started getting more regular.

I started feeding him 4oz of water in between his afternoon feedings. The first day it worked, he pooped on his own. Since that time (2 days ago) he still will not go without an enima and even then he has to strain really hard to push out the slightest amount. His stool is much softer now, but it almost seems like he has something blocking his bowels because he really has to strain to go even the smallest amount. Anything??

He is 3 weeks old...does he have access to a bowl of water, dirt, grass and a starter pellet?

I would have him x-rayed and find out what is wrong sounds to me like your doing everything right......but it has gone on pretty long now you need to get to the bottom of what is wrong.

Yes, he has access to all of those things in his little pen.

An Xray may be a good idea. Certainly can't hurt.
