DC, I wish you wouldn't have started this thread. The title is "Clean big typicals". You know that is just an argument waiting to happen. There will be more bucks that aren't clean posted, than those that are clean.
I have nothing against the clean ones or the ones with extras. Personally I like big frames with some extras and that is what I breed for.
Jump in here Don H. You know you want to:p

He has no real good pedigree got him from a guy from eastern pa says this line is supose to blow up at 3 (to bad he hit the fence early). His dad was 200 @ 3 and grand sire on dam side was 190s @ 3 but both were only 140s @ 2. My buck was 160 @ 2 to bad ill have to wait to see what he does at 4 this year his one side looks real good but the other side is messed up looking.

Here is our Big Typical Shock n Awe on the Walk farm. He looks like he could set a new standard for the Clean typical world in the industry with only one sticker showing so far and no trash at his bases. He was 240 last year in velvet,230+ hard antler and had a NET score 200+ in hard antler after deducting a 5 7/8's inch G6.

Here is Leathal Weapon on June 1st. And his Sire, BigBoy at age 4. Big Boy was a VERY VERY clean typical.
Last year LW wasn't all that clean but sure had the mass and frame underneath. He was 270+ last year with 242 typical frame.
This year, he looks cleaner. No points low so far. I hope he puts it in his tines.
But I won't cry if he grows 30-40 inches of kickers up high!

Rick, Shock n Awe was 22 1/4 last year inside and he looks like he is a couple inches wider this year. He has a huge body 300+ pounds so he is always a little wider when i get up to him. The last two years he had tines exceeding 13". I hope to see them again this year considering his width increase.

Here is a picture of EL Johnny on 06-22-09, along with his 3 year old photo (193 3/8" @ 3 - perfect 6X6 Typical), for reference. He is one of the last ones to start growing out at our place, but then he will continue to pour it on strong right up until the very end. He is much heavier on mass, appears to be slightly wider, and up to this point, he is keeping that beautiful typical frame. Call Elam Lapp @ 717-692-4759 for more information.
Here is a buck, Wht 68 that I consider pretty typical. he has very little junk except the stuff at the base. he has 11 points on his right and 10 on his left.

Here is a 2 Yr old Dreamcatcher son for you Todd. As you can see he damaged early on on his left side, not to mention his button fell off 3 weeks later. The tines just are not putting it on well on that side. I think that might be why the brow split. He was perfect side to side as a yearling though. We are going to watch him a little closer next year to make sure he drops both buttons very close in time. He has bumped another typical tine since this picture a week ago too!!

Junior Jack (Raised him as Hillbilly) sent me this picture of Lethal Weapon. He has lost all his trash below his g2's and has put on some mass. He might just be a small amount narrower than last year but if he puts those last ponts all in the right places and gets the tine length he always has....look out. He has a few kickers coming out on the g2's but they are not really splits. He could be the NET typical we've all been talking about... And remember his sire was an almost perfectly clean typical. And all his offspring are really nice clean big typicals. I know this is not the greatest picture but we'll get more when he finishes and also get some of his sons. - Sam (Don H, are you looking!)

I took this picture the day before this buck sliced open the bottom end of his left beam and lost a lot of blood. I knocked him down Saturday morning when it was cool and doctored him up to stop the blood loss. He shows no sign of infection but this injury might halt future growth. He was showing signs of being a very balanced six by six with one extra brow on his left side. He started growing late but really put on a lot of antler in July until this. He has a couple of well-bred daughters for me that I am going to breed more mostly-typical into this fall. He is a Doc son and he has a dam-side brother (one year older) in the next pen with 35 points. I chose to breed with him and not his brother. Please click on thumbnail photos. JOE

Well P.J. has proved again this year that he can put it on his head. He is a absolute horse. He has a 300+lb body and pretty good head gear to go with it. Because he did not have a long stacked pedigree, we waited to see if he could pass it down. He proved he could do that too. He has the best looking yearling we have ever had on our farm in Rockstar. Rockstar is growing really strong right now, adding tine length like crazy. To those who bought in on the semen deal, Thanks, and I cant wait to see your HUGE typical sons he will produce.

Dustin, That is a great looking buck that I am sure will score higher than he looks. Hey Steve- Thanks-I've primarily bred Apache in my South Texas pen and have sold all his offspring. I did keep 1 buck that is 2 this year that has his look. He does seem to be throwing big frame typical stuff. I also bred him to a couple Bucky grandaughters this year. We'll se what he does with a little northern mixed in. If he follows last years pattern he still has a couple weeks to grow. he scored 196@3 and has a bigger frame and longer tines already this year.

Tom, Magnus looks like he will score in the 230's and maybe 240 if he grows the rest of August. He sure has a good look to him with everything in the right places. Those Magnum II daughters sure pass a big frame with long beams. Having PA Geronimo and Bucky in there doesn't hurt either.
Joe,
That's about what I was guessing . He does seem to grow alot more on the back half of the season rather than earlier. In june he was way behind a lot of others but seemed to really pour it on in July and still appears to be putting on plenty each week. your right about MagnumII . He is an underrated sire if you ask me. He has been a big part in a lot of Rick and Dave's big bucks.

Joe C
08-15-2009, 04:44 PM
Tom,
On july 1st I had two bucks that are one year apart and share the same mother. They are both out of A.I. and the older one had 30+ points showing while the other was typical with brows and G-2's and not much more. The older one stopped growing 3 weeks ago and is far behind what I envisioned he would be. The slow grower is from the PA Geronimo bloodline and is still yet to finish. The PA Geronimo son that Pierce's had a couple of years ago Adrenaline grew well into September. I would rather see them grow it no matter what time they do it than to be let down by an early starter who can't finish. JOE
I hear ya Joe,
My brother has a buck that grows real early and each year by the end of July he is basicly done growing. It's nice to see them grow late...it keeps the suspense up. It keeps you wondering just how big they might get. At any rate , they all get as big and nice as the good Lord allows them to.

Good point Tom,
I believe when things go right for them, the credit should go to the creator. When they have a bad year, most of the time it is man who has a major factor in it. All we are is stewards, good or bad for these animals. I just wish that God would have created whitetail females that would grow antlers at least once in their first five years of life. That would make things more interesting. Joe
Joe,
Sometimes he does. Here is a 3 yr. old GB Webster daughter I have.
Wow has she ever had antlers before?
Nick Biser
Team Biser Whitetails
Last year when running the does thru for AIing, I noticed she had about an inch of growth on her left side. I didn't notice it grow any more until this July. I posted a thread about doe with antlers a while ago and learned that there are more out there than I had realized. I am not sure if she will pollish her antler or not , or if it will even shed. I never asked that question b4. Maybe others reading this will have some input on that.

Here are a couple of updated pics of him. again he is 3 this year and is a solid 6x6 and has the 7 on his right but it is only about 1 1/2" long. We are very happy with him. His side picture is from a couple of weeks ago. he would not turn when I took the others. The beams have grown more and are going to crabclaw again this year.

Sam James,
Thats a great looking yearling out of Sudden Impact on a Maxbo Doe. Great name Maxbo Impact. Whats the doe side besides Maxbo just wondering bc I got a Sudden Impact yearlings out of a HighRoller Doe. I call him Southern Impact I and he also has a womb brother Southern Impact II. I think they would be a killer cross together.

Hey everyone,
Enjoyed all the pictures sent in and wanted to try posting a couple of my own. Bear with me my first time ever posting or sending pictures to this forum. Pictures are of MMGodfather which is a 2 year old at our facility in Upper MI. Just an absolute huge body on this deer and he seems to be staying relatively typical. We really are excited about the "look" this deer has.

Here is Shock n Awe.. He finished out great! He looks awesome up close. He scored 213" B&C NET Typical and 226" NET SCI Typical. As far as I am aware of Shock n Awe is the biggest NET Typical Ever raised to date. The SCI Net Typical scoring system is a lil different. A deer has to have 5% or less stickers to be able to be considered SCI Net Typical with less deductions than B&C

haw926, SCI's non-typical rule is that if antlers have one or more non-typical tines whose total lengths equal 3 % or more of typical score, the antlers may be recorded as non-typical if the owner chooses. Shock n Awe looks great. Could you post a B&C score sheet.
Thanks,

Whitetail Sanctuary- Shock N Awe is out of Palmer he produced 3 huge typicals on our farm that went 200"+ typical. His Mother is W82 she is my power house doe. Everything out of her is huge. W82 Is a long line of typical breeding. W82 and Nobles mother go back to the same typical breedings with shareing 2 of the same grandparents. He is also 5 yrs old this year. At 4 he scored 240 Gross and 200" NET Typical. At 3 he scored 220 also very typical. He has always been very clean and atleast a 5x7(yearling) to 6x7(2,3,4,and 5yrs old) frame.
Predator- I do not know the official rules about the SCI scoring, I leave it up to the official scorers. 2 master SCI scorers told me that a deer has to have 5% or less stickers to go into the SCI Books as a Net Typical. So as deer breeders if we are breeding for "Typicals" our bucks should have 5% or less stickers or it is considered non-typical by the books. If a deer has 5% or more stickers it has to be enetered into th Non-typical category in SCI.
For some reason the scanner is down as soon as i get it working ill get the score sheet on here. If you are at the PA sale i will have the 2 score sheets with me if you are interested in looking at them.

haw926,
This is right out of the SCI Measures's Manual
SCI has separate categories for typical and non-typical antlers of certain deer species. To be considered typical, the antler beams and tines must grow in the typical manner and location, and they must form the typical pattern for that species. In each of these species. the length of each typical tine has a specific identification number: T-1, T-2, T-3, etc., and its length measurement must be shown on the proper line on the entry form. Any typical tines that are missing are to be identified by a zero or a dash.
Any non-typical tines-those that do not grow in the typical manner and location for that species-are numbered in sequence from the base of each antler: NT-1, NT-2, NT-3, etc., and their length measurements must be shown on the proper line on the entry form.
As of 2006, SCI allows the owner to choose whether deer antlers measued by Methods 17, 18,19, or 21 (17 is whitetail deer) are listed as typical or non-typical. If antlers measured by these methods have one or more non-typical tines whose total lengths equal 3% or more of the typical score, the antlers may be recorded as non-typical if the owner chooses. For example, a white-tailed deer head with a typical score of 150, and 4 4/8 inches (3%) or more of non-typical tine lengh, may be considered non-typical with a score of 154 4/8.
If antlers measued by these methods have one or more non-typical tines whose total lengths amount to less than 3% of the typical score, the antlers will be recorded as typical. For example, a white-tailed deer head with a typical score of 150, and less that 4 4/8 inches (under 3%) of non-typical tine length, will be considered typical with the score of 150, and the non-typical tine(s) will be recorded only as supplemental information; they do not count in the score, but also don't count against it'
Hope this helps ANY buck can be enterd typical but to be non-typical it needs to have 3% of non-typical tines ( this is a 2006 rule change ).

Attached are some pictures of "Handsome". To my knowledge he is the largest "Officially Scored" Net typical buck in the state of Texas. At the TDA Antler contest he scored 204 1/8 Net B&C. He won "TDA Best of Show" two years in a row in 2005 and 2006.
