Rold Gold is looking more like his Dad every year (High Roller). This is the first year he shed his antlers before Easter and is now showing us what he can do with a little growing time. Rold Gold has a huge foundation and is pouring on a noticeable amount of inches every day.

Do you or Sam remember a buck by the name of F.O.D. Caeser - AKA Redoy Mustang?

Timberjack reminds me a lot of him - only bigger. Great looking deer guys.

TX deer - Rex is doing great. So are several of our other breeders from last year - JimBob in particular. I'll post some pictures in a week or two. We also have a spectacular RDM Goliath son that is 3 years old. He was nice as as a two year old and we used him as a back up buck - now wishing we had just plain bred to him. Also, our yearling from last year out of Blue Mt. Bill, Billy Jack, now two has quite a load on his head. All of our Blue Mt. Bill sons are stand outs. Stay tuned for pics to come.

Here is a picture of EL Johnny on 06-22-09, along with his 3 year old photo (193 3/8" @ 3 - perfect 6X6 Typical), for reference. He is one of the last ones to start growing out at our place, but then he will continue to pour it on strong right up until the very end. He is much heavier on mass, appears to be slightly wider, and up to this point, he is keeping that beautiful typical frame. Call Elam Lapp @ 717-692-4759 for more information.

Hey Reed, I don't know why that pic was removed, but I know why I haven't posted pics of my bucks yet. It isn't to hide anything. It is because for us here it is still early in the game. I don't care what the score board says at the beginning of the game, it is what counts at the end of it;)

I went to Billy Sage's farm today and i was blown away. Perfect Storm looks to be 30 inches wide with more brows than any deer I've seen. Maxin 2 is absolutely a monster, 26 inside long tines and lots of brows with over 45 points and a lot of growing to go. Billy is not releasing pictures yet, however if bribed enough i may send photos.

I went to Curt's and his deer look really huge. Rolex and Jeckyll are as big as ever. A new buck Curt called Torch( a Rolex son) is a huge 26inch inside typical 6x6. Also he has the biggest yearling i have ever seen on Curt farm it is a Shadow/Jeckyll sister that should be at least 170. Every farm I've seen has big Shadow yearlings.

I was in all my pen's this morning to check on the deer after a brutal day of heat on Saturday. I couldn't believe Timberjack. I hadn't seen him in 3 days and he HAS BLOWN OUT POINTS ALL OVER! His main beam on his right side has split into 7 points. I counted about 52-53 points so far.

I took some pictures but to follow the trend here I've decided not to post any more pictures for a while. Heck, the last 6-7 posters have been all talk and no pictures. so....

I guess we'll play the suspense game! (Ha)!

All I said is we are waiting. I would like to share pics to see what others think of the bucks, but then I don't need people who don't understand how a typical framed buck grows looking down on my deer. One of the greats in the industry Dan Kuhns told me that my buck that I am most excited about ( Updraft ) will take time to develop. He told me that he felt Updraft would be a special buck when he matures. And that I had bred that deer very well. He told me to not expect too much the first couple of years and give the buck time. I think Dan knows what he is talking about and I respect his opinion very much.
Updraft as a yearling out scored his sire Big Guy by approximately 25".
I am very excited to see what he will do this year at 2 years of age. But like Dan says, I am waiting until 3 years of age since that is when Big Guy actually became the big buck everyone knows today.

ZZ Whitetails
06-28-2009, 04:51 PM
We all need to be patiant on bucks! We are all being spoiled by big yearlings and 2 year olds. Tex was a scrawny 6 point yearling and I mean pencil horn. At 2 he went 148 10 point and no one would of even wanted to shoot him. At 3 he went 267 and started to show himself. Never judge a yearling and give your 2 year olds the benefit of the doubt. I did spray him every day with miracle grow when he came 3 but don't tell anyone we'll keep it are little secret!!! ZZ

Reed68
06-28-2009, 06:20 PM
Roger, PJ is a typical and I understand the wait thing with him. I would have to wait about 14 days to take pics to be able to see the difference. And Rockstar, good god, he's growing slow, but still showing to a great yearling.

Aaron_CCDR
06-28-2009, 08:24 PM
Roger,

We grow some typicals here on our farms. Let me tell you we had the smallest deer in the area 2 weeks ago ( at least in our typicals). The time is now coming and watch out these boys are now on fire. Back to your point on growth. We have a 3 yr old typical bred Doc son that went about 95 @ 1, 145 @ 2, and soon as I get a chance here in the next couple days I will show you what he is doing at 3. He has had a rough year with severe leg injury and pnuemonia but he is looking pretty good. The ONLY trash is one sticker on a g-2 the rest is slick. Sorry I dont have the pictures yet but I will get them on here this week.
