Can anyone give some input on what vets do semen extractions from bucks? I know there are several vets that do it, but who are the better ones? I know some of them only travel in certain areas. We are in West Virginia. Names and contact info of vet would be helpful.
Thank You

Jack I know Earl Shova from Michigan comes down this way. I`m sure there are a few more also.
But you may ask Dc to make a draw for ya while he does his intercept. He`s pretty quick so he may just be able to get ya a free draw. :D

Mitch, what are you shovan up Michigan? I think you meant to say Suava. We have used Earl and like him. Doc Stewart from Georgia would be close to. The only problem would be schedule so stay on it before they are all booked up. I would lean towards Doctor DC from Ok. he's fast and cheap. Problem there is he may enjoy it to much!! Hmmm! ZZ

Seriously, does DC do semen draw? I feel like I have wandered into somewhere I don't belong.

Jack,
You just opened up a whole new line of jokes at DC's expense. Seriously though I'm pretty sure like ZZ said that Dr Stewart works up your way certain times of the season. Pretty sure he's out of the country until around mid July. I know he goes from Georgia up to PA and Ohio and then down to Tx by late November. Their website is www.southernveterinaryservices.com . Maybe somone closer to you knows someone locally, but Ive only heard other people say good things on these guys....

Jack, these guys are goofing around about one of the guys on here. That is who DC is. They have been riding him about an idea he has for doing his own a/i work, and it is carrying over into this thread and you apparently are not familiar with the inside joke.
Just follow their advise about using Dr. Stewart and you will be fine.
Guys, you all need to remember that not everyone follows the forum so close and some things won't make sense to them. Then next thing you know there is hard feelings. Jack sounded like he was confused by the way the talk was going.

Sorry Jack for interjecting the humor here. I thought everyone on the forums was reading Dc`s post about intercepting his buck on his way to breed a doe and Dc would intercept and AI the doe. Sorry Jack. Earl is down this way quite often to a bunch of farmers. I don`t think we are that far apart.
Hey ZZ, I`m Polish, and you expect me to spell correct? I`m lucky to speak right.
Here in Ohio ya can do a little Shovan but in Texas it`s hard because things are all big in Texas. :D

Mitch everything is BIG in texas and there probably is alot of shovan going on. Roger thanks for explaining to Jack and sorry got off subject. Mitch just does that to me! I'll bet he understands this one! Remember a midget is just a Texan with the sh$$ kicked out of him! ZZ

roger, steven, mitch ,ZZ,
thanks for getting me up to speed on this one. I have had a good laugh about it myself. Actually I have laughed my skinny little ars off. I'd give 10 bucks to see that !!
Thanks for the recommendation on the vet. I will do what I can to contact him and get him scheduled. I plan to collect my big typical piebald. Last year he was a clean typical 5 x 5 scoring 172". This year he is bigger. Still clean and typical, but wider and probably taller. We are expecting him be around 180" I was planning to sell the first 50 straws pretty cheap. Any of you guys interested? I was going to start a new thread sometime. Sort of like the way DD did for Hefty.

Hey DC just don't keep that collection tube in your back pocket !! Mitch is right DC is fast and when he's intercepting his buck during the rut he may have more chances to collect semen than he would really like to !! lmao !! You'll show'em DC , you may kill two birds with one swooping move !! Just a thought and I'm not even Polish !!

I've got $ 20.00 on the buck to be the one smoking the cigarette at the end of it all and DC will have a VERY noticiacle limp and grimace on his face...lmao I'm still claiming ALL video rights to that.

Hey DC , I'm not to sure about your buck interception but I know dang well you'll make some fawns doing your own AIing ..I know you will !! It's really quite easy if you just pay attention to details !! Thaw the semen correctly and keep it at that temp as best you can . Then just get it into the cervex and you'll make fawns !! You know all the rest already DC !!

Well, I talked with Dr Stewart. He refused to do any collections until January. Stating that is the best time to collect the bucks. Well, my buck is being sold in October, can't wait until January. Dr Souva (?) is pretty booked up. Someone said he was the best. He should be, he is darn high with his prices. $300 to draw and $10 per straw to process...PLUS TRAVEL!! I could have $2000 in one collection. Thats rediculous!
Any other options?

Pull out the old maw bell book and go through the vets in the yellow pages, maybe you'll hit on something. Good Luck.

Earl Souva isn't a Dr that I am aware of. Doesn't mean he isn't good at collecting on a buck, but I like that when a buck is down on the table there is a vet handy incase something goes bad. It is also nice to have him do a general health inspection at the time.
Again I am not cutting on Earl, just stating I like having a vet handy for the money we pay to collect.

Didnt know that, I was under the impression he was a vet, not from him but other people. Good point Roger. Jack, one other thing that I thought of after reading Rogers post. I have a friend a few miles up the road that has "sold" 2 nice breeders that he had to give the money back on because he tried to collect them before he shipped them. One didnt make it on the trailer and one didnt make it off...... Just something to toss around if you're selling this deer for a decent amount of money. I'm pretty sure those collections were by a vet and both deer had complications. Thats just 2 of several he's sold and done that to but it does happen and is probably something to be considered.

Well, when I talked to EARL yesterday, I called him Dr Souva when he answered the phone. He didn't state that he wasn't a doctor and didn't correct me on the usage of the title.
I have noticed that on whitetail Exchange some semen sellers list the Univ of IL as the place of storage. Does anyone know if the Univ. of IL has anyone that does semen collections? What about Penn State Univ.?

Jack maybe call Zimmermans???... I am wanting to draw at the same time as antler cut off...I was wandering if that was possible??? I even thought about putting a cidr in a junk doe as a teaser. I want to breed a few doe live with him and don't want to draw after...Zimmermans Custom Freezing. 131 Red Well Road New Holland, PA. 17557.

Dr. Shipley works out of the U of I and does do ai, laproscopic, and semen collection. His # is 217 333-7232. His vet tech Kim handles alot of that semen storage and might know if he travels your way. Rick
