I have a doe fawn that has lumpy jaw ( at least thats what I think it is). What is the recommened treatment for this?
I have heard guys say leave it be and it will go away on its own, and I have heard guys say lance it and give antibiotics. What do you do?

Thanks in advance

There is true lumpy jaw, which is bone.
There are abcesses.
Than there is food or hay impacting...
You need to find out what you are dealing with,Do you have pictures?

I don't have a pic. yet but will try and get one. She has a lump just under her eye on the upper jaw. I don't think it is food impacting it looks and feels more like an abcess. she don't let me pet her very much but I tricked her with some penuts.

Randy,
I have had it twice. First doe I lanced, drained and treated with antibiotics. The second doe I left alone and it took about three weeks to go away. Both of them turned out fine.

It may need lanced if she starts acting sick or it doesn't bust on it's own.
I had a white buck that had one, I had to bust.
I am an EMT,I also have a cadaver dog....The stuff in that deer abcess was about the worst thing I have smelled.
I had a brown doe that it busted on it's own.
Is she acting sick?

Usually the absesses head out on their own and will drain, however a large one that keeps growing can be problematic if near an eye or other critical organ. Then one must lance and medicate.

I once made the mistake of giving an oil based vaccine subquetanously. Big mistake, had dozens of critters with huge non-heading, creeping absesses, just beneath the skin. Had to lance them all, and squeezed out gallons of smelly goo. Interestingly, THE DOG LOVED THE STINKY STUFF, lapped up every bit that hit the concrete floor .............very strange.....................

She looks and acts fine it don't seem to be getting any bigger so I think I will just keep an eye on it for now.
