Lost Fawn

Our first born doe fawn, Loca is missing. :( She is 6 weeks old and has been bottle fed. She is the tamest. She was in her pen for the 11:30 pm feeding but was gone for the 8 am feeding. The gate was partially opened at the bottom and all of the grain had been ate. My husband thought maybe a racoon got in and ate the feed and pushed the bottom of the gate open and Loca followed it out. We have searched and searched everywhere for her. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, did the fawn come back?

We had a fawn that was about a two month old jump a five foot fence.About two days later she came back while we were feeding the fawns.The fawn should come back once she is hungry enough. Hope this gives you some hope.

Thank you! I guess you don't realize how attached you get to them. This is our first year bottle feeding fawns. Loca walks right up to you and jumps up on you like a puppy. She also acts like the "mother hen" to the other fawns.

I have had to catch a few fawns that did get out, they are usually right around the pen they dont seem to venture too far. She will be back

We have had a few fawns get out from time to time. The good news is that we have never lost one yet. They always seem to come back if they are not actually hiding right under your nose. with our mother raised fawns that have gotten out we usually corral them back into the pen. A friend of mine had a mother raised fawn that seemed to run half way across the county. 5 days later he showed back up at their door whining for mama. Give your fawn some time and it should show back up. I hope you have good neighbors to keep an eye out and that tie up their dogs. The biggest fear is of neighbors dogs. I wish you well and hope to hear of the safe return of your fawn soon.

Maybe she is really close by and your not seeing her? They can crawl in under a tree or bush and think they are hiding. If you bottle feed like we do the sound of the shaking bottle brings them a running. Maybe take a bottle with some water in it and walk around the area shaking it out loud. Maybe she will hear it and come running. Just an idea.

Make plenty of the normal feeding noises when you feed. Ifg she can hear you she will come running.

I just wanted to give an update on our missing fawn, Loca. She has not come back. We have searched everywhere for her, contacted all of the neighbors to keep an eye out for her, made bottle noises when feeding other babies, also went around the property shaking a bottle filled with water and have called her name. It has been a week today since she has been gone.
Now beginning to wonder if someone has taken her. Our "big" doe pen gate was open the other day and luckily none of them are missing. Just seems to be too much of a coincidence to me for two pen gates be open.

I would be wondering if you have an issue with animal rights wackos, or if it is just local kids that come to look and don't close up behind them. Best start locking the gates to keep kids out IF that is the problem. Sorry you didn't get her back.

So sorry you haven't found her. Sounds like it is time to invest in some padlocks.

The pad locks are my thought too. I told my husband that is what we need to do and to also put the trail camera up as well.

Something sounds really fishy to me.......last year my fawns got out twice (not real proud to say that) but anyhow, each time I got everyone back.......there would always be one that was hard to find and by evening it would be close to the pen crying to get back in with it's buddies.......i don't want to say that your fawn was taken but if you had two gates open that normally are not.....i think you may have had a thief and if that is the case lets hope you catch them!!!

KDR, I have to agree that it is not normal for a fawn to just leave and not come back. Especially at meal time. I would lock all gates and put up the camera. The thief needs caught. Allen
