JDR, what you feeding those BAD BOYS? They are looking good. Mine are just now starting. I have a couple of buck fawns that are about 1 1/2 out of their heads so far. Have high hopes for them. The older bucks all dropped about a month ago. Take care and share some of your secrets.....

Is Blackjack a pure Texas deer? If so, What is his estimated body size?

I answered half my question, by going to his site. He is out of Highroller and a Y-43-Trashy doe. He is Four this year. Pic is him at three.

You got it. Hard to get that kind of mass from pure Texas genetics. Not sure on the body size, I'll try to find out.

Btw, your buck Jerry looks to be putting on some pretty nice mass himself

Pretty good for a yearling. Is that a G-2 off the back of the beam or just a wide spot?

Isaac@AppleCreek

I am pretty sure it is a g-2 that will be close to the g-1. and that this buck is going to throw multiple points on both sides.

Antler Valley,

Ya he has some good mass I guess. He was right at 225 @ 2. His womb brother is pouring it on to just not as heavy but more typical. I love watching deer at this time and trying to image what they will turn out looking like. Bonehead looks to go wayyyy wide. Look how far his brows are apart.

Congratulations Sam, Brian James RDM Whitetails and Griffith Brothers on your work in building our two yearlings . Out of 100 yearlings on the ground today Saguaro and Mojave are Applecreeks two Best.W-15 is named Saguaro. He's a son of GB Magic, but goes back to Lumberjack (Timberjack's brother) as his does father. W-25 is named Mojave. Mojave is an RDM Timberbuck son, making Timberjack his grandfather. The grandfather on the doe side is RDM Goliath. I also have to give credit to Kevin Grace for his advice in purchasing this package at sale in 2007. I owe you all a big THANK YOU AND STEAK DINNER.

First of July and then fingers crossed he doesn't knock anyhting off. He was similar last year except his mass is bigger this year. Dreamer didn't really come on until 4 & 5 years. I loose confidence in them after 3 and go on the next line I'm developing. Son of Gun stuff has always been early growers as far as age, then level off.

Reed68
05-30-2009, 10:10 AM
It's always fun to watch all these "early" growers, with all the stickers and kickers. BUT, I'm guilty too, we need to watch for those wide , big framed bucks, that grow slow. They have long beams, tines, and awesome spread. I believe thats where the shooter market was when we left it. So, I have seen some, so lets see those that are "clean" showing FRAME, not extras.

B_Whitetails

roughcountrywhitetails
05-30-2009, 11:44 AM
B Whitetails,
Miken is growing slow since the damage one side is growing ok but the othe side has not realy grown since the damage and what has grown is pretty non-typical but at least he is healthy and there is high hopes for next year.

Isaac@AppleCreek

That is a great point there. We do all get excited early on about those fast starters that throw mass and lots of stickers .. but then it's the big strong typicals that blow everyone away come the fall. Over here we all seem to think that's where the shooter market is as well.

We definitely love the typical genes and we've seen alot of them come out of Full House. Full House has thrown many great typical sons, like Rancher.

We're glad to have some of his genes in our pens. Here is a recent shot of Saratoga. Taken just yesterday. He's one of those wide slow starters... but he's really taking off now... =)

Here is our Geronimax 2 year old son. His mother is a Loner/Red 16 cross. (Chestnut Hill's - Superstar's wombsister). We are pretty excited about his future, as he not only brings a nice 6 x 6 mainframe, but he is also loaded with pedigree. (Max, PA Geronimo, Flees' Bucky, Poncho, Sundance/Mag.228) Oh yeah and don't forget his anchor doe Red 16 is a High Roller 3/4 sister and is Powerball's Mother. Wilmer expects PB to be around the 350" mark this year @ 3.

This buck is the womb brother to Battle Axe. A little different look to him. Axtreme broke his front leg in Nov. last fall. Was going to shoot him until a good friend convinced me not to. He shed April 1st and really never did anything until end of June. I'm pretty happy with him considering what he went through. Should be pretty sharp next year.
